American soprano Brenna Markey has been gaining acclaim for her voice and dramatic interpretation, singing a richly varied repertoire in both opera and concert. 

This Fall, she will return as a guest artist in Opera at Florham’s Concert Series. Most recently, Brenna covered Berenice in Rossini’s L’occasione fa il ladro for Opera South West. In the fall of 2022, Brenna appeared as Elisetta in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto at Sarasota Opera marking her house debut. Brenna returned to Sarasota Opera in their 2023 season covering the role of Cio-Cio San in their production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. At the same house, Brenna covered the role of Odabella in Verdi’s Attila in the 2022 winter season. Additionally, last season Brenna appeared as Alcina in AlterEgo Opera’s Fringe Festival production of Alcina Revamped. This year, Brenna was a semifinalist in the world-renowned Elizabeth Connell Prize International Singing Competition for Dramatic Voices where she was 1 of 17 selected worldwide. This year Brenna is also a semifinalist in the Vincero International Singing Competition. In 2021 Brenna was awarded First Place in The Medici International Music Competition, First Place in The Century Opera Competition in NYC, as well as Second Place in The Napolinova World Voice E-Competition, and Second Place in The Arturo Toscanini Competition. Additionally, Brenna sang Violetta in La Traviata at Vincero Academy’s 2021 young artist program.

Brenna sang Mimi in La Boheme and Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro for The International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia of 2020. Brenna also appeared several times in The Fort Worth Opera’s Master class Series. Before the pandemic, Ms. Markey gave a stunningly haunting performance as Mel, a character confronted with a decision about whether take her own life, in the premiere of Potentialite, a one act opera by Alize Rozsnyai and Roger Martinez.

Ms. Markey enchanted audiences as she performed in the November 2019 Opera at Florham Bel canto program concert as well as The Opera at Florham Violetta DuPont 2018 Vocal Competition where she was a finalist and recipient of their encouragement award.

In Philadelphia’s Russian Opera Workshop, Ms. Markey received high praise for her soaring high notes and expressive lyric vocal quality where she premiered Alexander Dargomyzhsky’s Rusalka in the title role. She has also appeared in roles such as Pamina in Die ZauberflöteElvira in Bellini’s I PuritaniLauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and in 2015 premiered a contemporary opera titled Maren of Vardo: Satan’s Bride composed by Jeff Myers and libretto by Royce Vavrek where she sang the role of Karen. Ms. Markey has sung as a soloist in Bach’s Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Joseph Haydn’s Missa in B “Harmoniemesse”, and Mozart’s Requiem.

Ms. Markey received her Bachelor's degree in music from Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance in Philadelphia where she was awarded the Professor Klara B. Meyers Tribute Scholarship.
